About the Artist
Basically self-taught, this watercolour artist grew up in Wawanesa, Manitoba and now works from her studio at Lake Manitoba Narrows. Shirley has found a nice balance between her painting and her home-based custom framing business, which complement each other very well. She has won several awards, including ‘Best of Show’, at Juried Art Shows in many regions of the province over the past 25 years, having lived in Brandon, Winnipeg, Thompson, Dauphin, Arborg and Stonewall. Shirley was acknowledged for her design of the Canada Summer Games medals in 1997, the cover of the Manitoba Public Insurance Millennium calendar and her entry to the Ducks Unlimited Central Flyway Sponsor Print Program in 2000.
For Germain, watercolour is the perfect medium to portray the many moods of Manitoba. She still feels compelled to capture the beauty of the Aurora Borealis…something she remembers vividly from her years in the north. However, her subject matter has broadened and she now enjoys painting prairie landscapes, abandoned farmyards with old machinery & vehicles, as well as many Manitoba birds. She has had several works reproduced in the form of limited edition prints, giclees and art cards.
Shirley is a member of the Assiniboia Group of Artists Co-operative, and has been involved with the Manitoba Art Expo in Winnipeg since its inception in 1996. You may contact this artist anytime at her studio at Lake Manitoba Narrows, where she lives with her husband Dwayne.
